An all-new Ford Expedition is at the gate of Chevrolet’s 43-year domination of the big body-on-frame sport/utility market, and so the Bow Tie brand has yet another special edition to bridge the bestselling Tahoe sales success with a new one, which arrives within 18 months, in time for the 2020 model year.
The 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe Custom Midnight is a two-row version of the venerable SUV, going on sale this spring. Losing the third row in favor of cargo results in 54 cubic feet of all-seats-up space back there, though it’s also a tacit acknowledgement that many owners who don’t regularly need the non-flat folding seat store it in their garages.
The Custom Midnight edition combines an earlier Custom two-row edition with Midnight editions of other Chevy SUVs, which means it’s a potential offroader with black paint replacing chrome accents. It comes in the Tahoe LS trim level, and adds black-painted 18-inch wheels wrapped in “aggressive” Goodyear Wrangler Dura Trac tires. There’s a black grille, black bow ties, and off-road assist steps.
Base price is $45,995, including destination, and the 2018 Chevy Tahoe LS Custom Midnight will be available with rear- or four-wheel-drive.
